2017 Wallpaper trends

Being Master Painters, Summit Coatings are also qualified and experienced wallpaper hangers. The last few years have seen a rise in the popularity of wallpaper, so we’ve added a feature on wallpaper to our series of 2017 trends.

If you’re ready (and brave enough) for wallpaper in your home, take a look at these print styles to get inspired.

Greenery

Green is big in 2017. Considered the “new neutral”, green is perfect for those who want to get the visual effects of wallpaper, without going overboard. What’s more, if you live in a leafy area, or are surrounded with trees or greenery, it’s an easy way to bring the outside, in.

Tropical

We’ve discussed the popularity of the tropics in our 2017 Decorating Trends post, and wallpaper is no different. Whilst some home owners like to stick to a floral cushion, some want to go all in; and if that’s you, this theme is for you!

Tropical wallpaper evokes a strong sense of fun, whilst being extremely on-trend. It’s colour and pattern options range from subdued hues, to bright and colourful. The choice is yours! Depending on where you’re hanging this style of wallpaper, and what feel you’re going for, there’s sure to be a pattern which will satisfy your tropical vibes.

Texture

Neutrals and fresh tones are getting a makeover with the adding of textures to an otherwise bland space. Wallpaper is a great place to start the layering of different materials. It’s also perfect for those homeowners wanting to use wallpaper, but not brave enough to go full-on graphic. Patterns like linen, fur, metallics and even bricks will add depth and interest to any room.

2017 Decorating Trends

As a painter North Shore, Summit helps clients refresh their space to keep up with 2017 decorating trends. We know there’s nothing better than rejigging a space to be fresh and inspiring. As such, we’ve put together our top picks for 2017 decorating trends.

Green

In our previous post, we mentioned how green was a colour to watch in 2017. From lime green, through to a deep emerald (and everything in between), green is the colour du jour.

Green is a flexible colour in that it can be used in soft hues as an all round wall colour, or used as a strong feature wall, if you prefer something bolder.

Alternatively, accent your room with green finishes such as throw pillows and blankets, or even green glassware.

The tropics

Whilst warm days and sandy beaches never seem to go out of style, tropical prints are huge in 2017 decorating trends. As a painter North Shore, we have been seeing the rise of tropical wallpaper being installed across Sydney.

Try giving your home an on-trend, but relaxed vibe by using a palm inspired wallpaper as a feature. Or why not bring the outdoors in with a Birds of Paradise palm (faux, of course). Again, throw cushions are one of the easiest ways to use this trend.

Navy Blue is the new Black

Navy blue has found its way back into our lives in the form of kitchens, upholstered couches and accents. If you’re game enough to step away from the white kitchen, why not try this as the new standard?

Navy Blue is still neutral enough that it will outlast many other fads (which is what you want when fitting out a kitchen), but it will still give you an up-to-the-minute vibe. Did you know you can even paint your kitchen cabinetry? Check out a post we did a while back and speak to a painter North Shore to discuss if this is an option for you.

If fixed cabinetry is too daring for you, consider painting a navy blue feature wall in your living space instead.

Texture

The idea of mixing fabrics and materials is on the rise. The key to good interior design has always been “layers”, yet with 2017 decorating trends we’re seeing this taken to another level. Thick woven blankets, rough concrete walls, reclaimed timber furniture and more are all key in building visually appealing spaces.

Try incorporating aspects of the above trends to create highly textured zones. Don’t be afraid to mix rough and soft materials, and even to experiment with wall surfacing. As a painter North Shore, Summit can work with you to create bespoke wall treatments using fine paint finishes and other materials.

Interior Colour Trends 2017

A residential painter like Summit Coatings always loves seeing the new colour trends which come with a new year. Our favourite source for 2017 colour trends is Behr which is why we’ve taken our top picks for interior colour trends 2017 from the Behr collection. This year, Behr has separated their colours into three categories:

  • Confident
  • Composed
  • Comfortable

This is a great solution for those looking for colour choices, as it’s easy to identify which type of decorator you are and then choose your colours accordingly. Check out our top colours for interior colour trends 2017:

The Confident Palette

“The Confident palette embodies all that is fun about color – it is adventurous and takes some risks. These colors are perfect for places you want to add a drama point – an accent wall, the back of a door, a piece of furniture…”

Our favourite for interiors? Jade Dragon.

With a hint of retro and plenty of personality, green hues such as this add depth and character to an otherwise black & white kitchen. Using bright colours from the Confident collection as accent colours are the best way to achieve an on-trend look without going overboard. interior colour trends 2017

The Composed Palette

“The Composed colors are an excellent backdrop for layering and to showcase other colors in furniture and decor. This palette features a mix of mysterious earth colors and deep jewel tones.”

Our favourite for interiors? Shades On.

For all you more neutral homeowners, Shades On is a darker twist on the neutral whites and greys of 2016. Being such a dark hue, it’s still quite bold, but can be softened with more traditional touches like wall panelling and rich timber floors.interior colour trends 2017

The Comfortable Palette

“The Comfortable colors are muted pastels, evolving away from sweet and bright colors. They feel feminine and sophisticated, especially when paired with light, natural tones.”

Our favourite for interiors? Close Knit.

Again, a neutral colour but a little safer than the previous bolder grey. We predict Close Knit and colours similar will be very popular throughout Sydney homes in 2017. With it’s earthy yet modern tone, Close Knit is the perfect all-rounder colour for your home. Pair with popping pastels for an ultra-chic feel.
